The inner west is the name given for a group of suburbs that sit west of the central business district. There is no set rule as to which suburbs make up the inner west region , however they generally include suburbs located in the boundaries of Canada Bay, Ashfield, Burwood, Strathfield. Infrastructure:
The public transport system supports all the main options to travel in the inner west. This includes buses, ferries, trains and the light rail. The main train line runs from Central station to Strathfield and then on further to Liverpool.
City Rail also operates the Northern line which goes to Strathfield and then branches north to Hornsby.
The bus system is extensive and supported by Sydney Buses.
Sydney Ferries operates services in the inner harbour and Parramatta River with stops at Parramatta, Rydalmere, Sydney Olympic Park, Meadowbank, Kissing Point, Cabarita, Bayview Park, Abbotsford, Chiswick, Huntleys Point, Drummoyne, Cockatoo Island, Darling Harbour, McMahons Point, Milsons Point and Circular Quay.
There is also the Metro Light Rail which runs from Central to Lilyfield. Stops include Pyrmont Bay; Star City; John Street Square; Fish Market; Wentworth Park; Glebe; Jubilee Park; Rozelle Bay; Lilyfield
The main thoroughfare is the Parramatta Road runs through the middle of the Inner West. The M4 starts at Strathfield and provides an arterial link to the M7 as well as linking directly to Penrith in Sydney’s Greater West.
A number of bicycle tracks are dotted through the inner west area with an increase in bicycle usage in the last decade. Newly developed areas such as Rhodes have a number of bicycle tracks that run along the waters edge and through the park lands.
