Darwin
Darwin is the most populated city in the Northern Territory with over 120, 000 people calling it home. It is the state capital of the Northern Territory situated on the north coast of Australia on the Timor Sea. Darwin is Australia’s northern most city making it the regional centre for business and industry in the area. The city is around 112 square kilometers and is governed entirely by the City of Darwin Council. Darwin is a multicultural city with people from around the world calling it home. Residential, commercial and military areas make up the majority of the city whilst there are also several parks, reserves and beaches as well. The city has a rich history and important aboriginal connections as well as an array of natural wonders surrounding the city. Darwin is growing rapidly and has a strong economy made up predominantly by mining and tourism. The city’s proximity to Asia makes it an important port and gateway for the rest of Australia.

Education:
There are a number of private and public schools in the region. The city also provides tertiary and vocational options. Education in Darwin is overseen by the Department of Education and Training who look after over 15, 000 students. Charles Darwin University is Darwin’s and the Northern Territories largest university also catering for vocational TAFE programs.
Infrastructure:
The main way for people to travel within Darwin is by car. The major transport roads in Darwin include Trower Road, Bagot Road, McMillans Road, Tiger Brennan Drive, Amy Johnson Ave and Dick Ward Drive. Buses service the city with an efficient reliable service on numerous different routes to move the population around the city.
Darwin has no inner city train system however it is possible to catch a train to other states in Australia.
Darwin international airport is located close to the city in Marrara, receiving flights from around the country and overseas.
The city has two main hospitals of which one is public and one is private. They are located on the same street in Tiwi.

Darwin is a unique city with a good variety of activities to get involved in. The location of the city gives it amazing access to some of the world’s most unique and pristine nature and wildlife. There are numerous beaches such as Casuarina and Mindil beaches which are known for their beauty.
Darwin also has amazing parks and gardens such as the Charles Darwin National Park and the botanical gardens. If you prefer the indoors then there are plenty of shops, galleries, cinemas to keep you occupied as well as restaurants from around the world. It is also worth the time to take a walk through the city and surrounding areas to see some of the historic buildings and ancient aboriginal art that dates back millions of years. Although still a small city, Darwin has a lot to offer. The city has a great spirit and many unique aspects to it that can be seen nowhere else in the world. Darwin combines ancient civilizations, tropical beaches and an abundance of wildlife with a modern city that has a strong vibrant economy and bright future.
